Patio Dining: Wine & Cheese Party

Wine & Cheese Night is a classic party theme (and if you don't like wine, try a Beer & Cheese Night). As you try different wines and cheeses, you begin to discover new tastes and favorite pairings.

Restaurant cheeseboards can get pretty expensive. Cheeseboards are surprisingly easy and fun to make - despite how extravagant they look. Here's a handy list of what makes a great Wine & Cheese Platter.
  • Cheese Board: Traditionally made out of wood, slate or marble. If you don't have one use a couple of large dinner plates.
  • Crackers and Bread: Try classic table water crackers, Ritz, Triscuits, crostini, French baguette, sourdough, multigrain breads.
  • Complimentary Treats: Nuts, Olives, Pickled Onions, Dried and Fresh Fruit, Dark Chocolate, Proscuitto, Salami
  • Condiments: Mustards, Jams or Jellies, Horseradish
  • Utensils: One knife for each cheese. Spoon or knife for jams & spreads. Fork for olives, onions, and meats.
Let the cheese rest 30 min prior to serving. Add cheese labels so guests can know what cheeses they are eating.

Arrange cheeses onto the board, spread apart from each other. Then add the crackers, bread and fruit. Lastly, fill in the gaps with small things like nuts, olives, artichokes, pickled onions. You can put jam, spreads, nuts, olives each in a mini bowl or directly on the board. Tip: Do not group similar things together on the board. Spread similar items out, so that wherever you sit, you have some kind of cheese/fruit/nut/meat accessible.

Trader Joe's offers a wide selection of  quality cheeses for an affordable price.
