Small Spaces - The Apartment Balcony
Apartment living provides a lot of amenities, especially if
you love to go out and socialize with friends. An apartment balcony or small
terrace is an ideal place to unwind at the end of a long day. Don’t you want your
outdoor space to be just as enjoyable as your favorite fusion restaurant down
the block? Of course! And, you’d like room for a friend or two as well.
The classic high bistro table is ideal for a small balcony. For
extra style and comfort add cozy cushions to the chairs. You may even have
enough room for a few colorful planters to grow plants and herbs. For low
maintenance flowers that can handle direct sun try lantana (butterflies love
these!), black-eyed susan, zinnias, sunpatiens and sedum (so many varieties!). You
could even grow a small tree such as lemon or fichus. However, be sure to bring
these indoors during the colder winter months.
If you would prefer an outdoor living room consider a small conversation set. If you don’t have room for this much furniture choose a smaller side table to place next to the sofa and angle the chair to fit the space. For additional style and comfort buy a few outdoor pillows and a cozy throw.

NOTE: It is especially important with small spaces that you
measure before buying furniture. Be sure that large pieces will fit up the
stairs, on the elevator and through your balcony door. And be sure to purchase
cushions and pillows that are made for outdoor use to avoid mildew.
